WE ARE ALL AMBASSADORS – WHEREVER WE GO, WHATEVER WE DO. A SELECT GROUP REPRESENTS OUR COUNTRY IN AN OFFICIAL CAPACITY, ACCOMPANIED BY CEREMONIAL POMP AND GLAMOUR.

Most of us, however, engender goodwill simply through our daily interaction with others. We sparkle on special occasions when hospitality, fine food and beautiful surrounds play a key role in connecting us with one another. In this issue, interior designers, architects and homeowners celebrate residences where grace reigns.

In Palm Beach, designers William Eubanks and Mitchell Brown renovate the residence of Mary Ourisman, the U.S. ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, and her husband, Mandell Ourisman, infusing the home with a Georgian aesthetic. Ronald Spogli, the U.S. ambassador to Italy, and his wife, Georgia, entertain alfresco at Villa Taverna, their official residence in Rome. In a townhouse in the social and diplomatic milieu of Georgetown, designer Mary Douglas Drysdale utilizes hand-painted wall treatments to create the impression of luxury of space. Incorporating antiques from her Houston shop, Donna Temple Brown reimagines a French-style townhome. Designer Jaya Ibrahim reinvents his small island bungalow in Java with bold colors and more natural light. William Diamond and Anthony Baratta, New York-based designer, collaborate with architect Janet Jarvis to create a spirited, sprawling log home in Idaho.

Designer Larry Laslo celebrates his home furnishings and accessory lines. Tastemaker Carolyne Roehm concocts an impromptu dinner party. Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa, shares recipes for a winter lunch. Chef Gabriel Kreuther offers recipes from The Modern, one of Danny Meyer’s numerous restaurants in Manhattan.

Also in this issue you will find luxury watches, dressy wallpaper, trims and tiebacks, the Four Seasons resort on Bora Bora, an exhibition of Pierre Bonnard’s paints at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, luxury residential resort communities in the Southeast and the engaging Central Park mural at Tavern on the Green. As we begin a new year, may we all resolve to become more gracious ad effective ambassadors of goodwill.
